Leesburg (Oct. 23, 2008) – The Potomac Falls High School boys and girls cross country teams swept the AA Dulles District meet at Ida Lee Thursday with the Panther boys winning for the eighth consecutive year and the girls repeating their district crown without their top runner.
The meet, sponsored by DigitalSports.com, was run under blue skies and mild temperatures. The PF boys were led by the 1-2 finish of Josh Hardin and Ryan Hagen with Harden taking home his third straight individual district title. PF’s Christina Lee was unable due to injury to compete for her third straight individual title which left Loudoun County’s Julie Strange coming home in first with a whopping 31-second advantage.
Strange ran a 19:34.32 while Hardin turned in a 16:38.05 to finish 15 seconds ahead of his teammate Hagen, who he himself, was 15 seconds ahead of third place, Dominion’s J.T. Duke.
In the girls race, PF’s Melissa Saunders finished second, just edging out Briar Woods’ Giana Leone. The Falcon girls finished second, ahead of third place LC and fourth place Freedom. The top four teams move on to next week’s Region II meet at Oatlands.
In the boys race, Dominion took second followed by LC and BW.
The Panther boys are one of the top ranked teams in the state and also have a regional ranking in the Southeastern. Last year PF failed to move onto AA states have tying for fourth at regionals and then losing on a tiebreaker.
Girls Results are below thie boys results …

College Vision Student Athlete of the Month Park View High School September 2008 Volleyball
“Kristin is my libero and captain- she has played varsity for three years – being moved up because of her hard work and competitive spirit as a 10th grader. Every year Kristin has played a different position to help the team. Finally, in her true position as libero she shows her talent and skills for passing the volleyball on receive (over 90%) and being a strong digger. What I admire the most about Kristin is her intense attitude, high standards for success, and her desire to help others be their best. Kristin has demonstrated all these attributes with solid character and true leadership. On the court she is in control and ready to take charge. Other players from 9-11 grade look up to her as the true measure of PVVB. She is very coachable and though she looks to me for advice, she is confident at the same time with the challenges in front of her. Her setter can count on her to get the ball. Kristin in very involved in school activities and was just nominated to the senior homecoming court. She sets high standards for herself and her teammates and holds the bar high every practice and game. It is truly an honor to coach her.” Coach Kathryn Koscinski

The Minuteman by Steven About: Steven is a senior at Park View High School where he is on the golf and lacrosse teams. Give this Patriot a minute and he will give you the latest on Park View Athletics.
(Oct. 17, 2008) – I gotta admit, this Homecoming weekend left a bad taste in my mouth, and no I’m not talking about that awful green punch that was served at the dance. Park View let another one slip away as the visiting Potomac Falls Panthers defeated the Patriots 28-20 in a game where a key play or two meant the difference between a win and a loss. To make matters worse, when the Homecoming queen was crowned the girls who lost did not create a massive catfight. Instead they hugged and cried and hugged and cried some more. I could have just stayed at home and watched the Lifetime Channel.
Anyways, the Patriots will now most likely have to win out the rest of their games this season in order to advance to the postseason.
Some believed that Friday’s game would be a blowout. After all, the Panthers were coming in with an undefeated record and a pretty stacked offense that has been virtually unstoppable up to this point. Yet, the Patriots never got too far down and were within striking distance the whole game. In a way, this game was a microcosm of the whole season so far and as we head toward the final few games of the season let’s take a look at what Coach Hill’s squad has done so far.
Receivers: Yeah, okay. When looking at a team you always start with the QB but I’m a big play kinda guy and I love seeing the ball gunned downfield. For the Patriots, WRs Josh Jones and Drew Mason have had great seasons despite the fact that they are two different kinds of wideouts. Jones is quick, nimble and able to get open downfield and Mason fares better in short and medium yardage situations where he racks up yardage after the catch. Combine these two different players with Tommy Sedeski, one of the most talented receivers in the area, and you would expect many big plays and a large number of touchdowns, right?
Quarterback: Junior Brandon Lee has taken nearly every snap this season and is improving on the job. Last year’s team featured a great passer, CJ Leizear, and Lee has struggled to be the same type of QB. However, when the pocket is collapsing or no one is open, Lee is more athletic and can make something out of nothing. In short, Coach Hill now has a Donovan McNabb instead of a Peyton Manning.
Running Game: In the offense of Andy Hill passing seems to rule. However, Brandon Absher and Darius Beale have been able to open up the offense and gain yardage on the ground. With a small line and talented receivers the running game may not show up on paper as spectacular but blocking and receptions from the RBs are vital to the success of the Patriots.
Defense: Where to begin…Not a single part of the defense has proved spectacular or lackluster, yet it seems in every game, for just a few minutes, the defense has a letdown – even if they have played well to that point. The biggest concern is probably the passing defense, as the secondary gives up a long ball or two every game, which can prove tough in the close games that we have been in. Despite that fact, as a whole, the “D” Unit holds up well most of the time and expect the Patriots to shut down run-heavy teams like Dominion.
Upcoming games:
Briar Woods-a Division 3 team that is coached by View’s old coach. If the D can stop RB J.T. Bailey, expect a Patriot win. Prediction: Park View win.
Dominion-every year the cross-town rival packs their stadium expecting a big upset win. Deandre (no last name needed … OK, Reaves!) is almost the whole team and shutting him down is key. Prediction: Park View win.
Heritage-Ross Madison is one of the best players in the district. He punished opposing teams and over coverage of him opens the offense up for Coach Driskill’s squad. This will be a tough game for the Patriots and Heritage will be looking to make the playoffs after last season’s near miss. Prediction: Very close game which will be determined by turnovers. Toss-up.
Broad Run-No prediction … hey, I have to go to school with these Patriots!
The rush to make the playoffs is in full swing. Park View will probably have to win out to make the post-season and with Sherando’s loss to Handley it appears the winner of the Potomac Falls-Broad Run game will clinch the first seed in regional play. Boy, do we have some good football ahead.

Friday Oct. 17 Scoreboard
AA Dulles District
Briar Woods 14, Park View 6 The Skinny: The Briar Woods defense made TD runs by Billy McDonald and Ray Taliaferro stand up. McDonald’s 4-yard plunge in the first quarter gave BW the 7-0 lead but Park View cut it to 7-5 on a Brandon Lee-to-Tommy Sedeski 20-yard TD midway through the second quarter. Lee finished with 162 yards passing on a 11-for-27 night. The Falcons grounded out 191 yards rushing without any back gaining more than Matt Eisenman‘s 45 yards. All told, seven BW backs carried the ball. PV had the ball at BW’s 11 on their first drive of the game but Falcon J.T. Bailey recovered a fumble to halt the drive. BW then went on a 15-play, 89-yard scoring drive. PV answered right back with an 11-play, 86-yard march. BW’s second scoring drive came on their first possession of the second half, on seven plays for 63 yards. BW’s defense only allowed PV across midfield once in the second half and no closer to the goalline than the 44.
Broad Run 37, Loudoun County 17 The Skinny: T.J. Peeler runs for 249 yards on just seven carries! He had TD runs of 65, 79, 84 and 9 yards. Breon Earl added a 75-yard score. LC led 3-0 heading into the second quarter but the Spartans scored the next 37 points. BR finished with 539 total yards. The Raiders threw 38 times in the defeat with Mike Ayoub catching eight balls for 126 yards and Chase Williams grabbing six for 90. Both players scored on TD passes from Austin Campbell. Spartans improve to 7-0 and 4-0
Heritage 14, Dominion 7 The Skinny: The Pride scored the winning touchdown with 8:22 left in the contest of a 18-yard Brian Roddy-to-Russell East pass. Earlier in the game, Heritage scored on an 11-yard TD pass from Zach Gordon to T.J. McPhaul in the first quarter but Dominion scored with 20 seconds left in the half, on a Trey Baxter-to-Aaron Good 14-yard TD to tie it at 7-7. The Pride defense held Titan back Deandre Reaves to 43 yards on 15 rushes. Ross Madison picked up 143 yards for Heritage on 26 attempts. Dominion, playing before a Homecoming crowd, played turnover free in its effort to upset Heritage.
Potomac Falls 54, Freedom 0 The Skinny: Panthers improve to 7-0 and 4-0 to set up big showdown against Broad Run in Ashburn next week. The Panthers did all the damage in the first half as they scored 34 points in the first quarter alone including two Tarrell Owens interceptions returns for TDs and scoring runs by Michael Baker and Greg Woodlief.
AAA Liberty District
Stone Bridge 35, Madison 0 The Skinny: Bulldogs defense shuts out the Warhawks on the road as Stone Bridge improves to 8-0, 5-0. SB has now won 21 consecutive games. Michael Prince scored three touchdowns in the win, one on a reception from Patrick Thompson and then two on runs, including a 93-yard sprint. Daniel Allen and John Bladel accounted for the other two scores, both on TD throws by Thompson. Thompson threw for 197 yards on 14 of 24. Bladel gained 90 yards on six receptions.

**Briar Woods has scored a total of just 38 points in its last three victories. During that stretch the Falcon D has given up just 20 total points. In seven games, only Broad Run has scored more than 14 points against Briar Woods. **The 17 points given up by BR Friday was the most this season one game by the Spartans. **For the last three weeks, Dominion has been a game-tying touchdown away in the fourth quarter but came away with losses to BW, BR and Heritage. **In four Dulles District games, Freedom has given up 199 points. **Heritage’s 14 points Friday was 50 points less than the Pride scored the week before against Freedom. **The LC offense has scored between 14 and 21 points in all seven games this season. **Three of five PV defeats this season have come by a TD or less. **The 54-0 PF win Friday was still 14 points shy of their 68-0 win over Hedgesville in Week 2. **Stone Bridge defeated Langley and Madison in the past two weeks by a combined score of 73-0. **LV had scored just 26 points while opening up 0-6 but the Vikes had 27 on Friday in the win at Culpeper.

Previous Twitter Article:
(Oct. 15, 2008) – Forget the economic meltdown … a sure sign of the ending of the world may be that the LPS Monkey is now on Twitter!
Yes, the LPS Monkey, long the workhorse (er, worksimian?) behind the Loudoun Prep Sports website, has decided that he needs to share updates with you, the viewer, on his new Twitter account.
Want to know which stories are being updated? Want to know breaking news before we actually break it? Want to know if the LPS Monkey is playing Call of Duty instead of cleaning his room? Check out our Twitter account at http://twitter.com/LPSMonkey.
We were worried that the LPS Monkey even knew what he was getting into but, heck, he saw Paul Tenorio and Matt Brooks, Loudoun’s dynamic duo for the WashPost “twittering” away at football games and decided how hard can it be … just kidding Paul and Matt … you know the Monkey “loves ya” … hmmm, didn’t reallys ound right, did it?
Anywho … Check it out … you never know what the LPS Monkey will Twitter about next …
Disclaimer our lawyer (I.B. Suethem) made us print: No actual simians were harmed in the making of this report. The LPS Monkey bears no resemblence to LPS Editor Dan Sousa’s 16-year-old son Cooper, though, come to think of it, that kid doesn’t clean his room much. The LPS Monkey is in fact real … how else to explain the fact that he claims to have roomed with Sid and Marty Kroftt at Hanna-Barbera University and claims to have been turned down for the lead role in “Danger Island” because he was “too hairy”.
