Leesburg
(Apr. 24, 2008) – The last time Park View and Loudoun County played in
softball it was a tight 2-1 win by the Raiders but Thursday’s AA Dulles
District contest at LC High School was a wild affair with 23 runs and
39 hits. And when the last scorekeeper’s pencil was down to a nub, Park
View emerged with a  13-10 victory.

The win essentially leaves
the Patriots and Raiders tied for second place behind undefeated Broad
Run as both teams now have two losses.

Thursday’s affair was wild
enough that the final hit total ranged anywhere from 32 to 39 hits and
the miscue total ranged anywhere from eight to 15 errors, depending on
which scorebook you took a peep at.

The game was peacefully tied
at 2-2 when PV broke it open with six runs in the fourth inning and
four more in the fifth inning to take a whopping 12-2 lead. LC, ranked
this week No. 4 in the latest Washington Post poll, however, showed its
mettle, by coming back to score six times in the bottom of the fifth
but the margin was too great to overcome.

Only three of the
Raider 10 runs were earned as PV had a run of sloppy play in the field.
Laura Heironimus went the distance and got the win to improve her
record to 5-2.

PV had more than enough offense to offset the
errors with Robin Heironimus, Emily Garcia, Sam Louk and Brittany
Griffin all collecting three hits.  Griffin drove in three runs with
two doubles.

Reported PV coach Ed Abner: “As the softball
pundits are apt to say, sometimes you take the W and move on—it wasn’t
pretty but it’s a W.”

The Raiders also had plenty of offense on
the night with 19 hits, five stolen bases and three walks. Highlighting
the Raider attack were:

Rochelle Latka was 3-5, with 3 singles, two SB, 1 run and a RBI

Holly Norris was 3-4 with 3 singles, 1 SB, 1 BB,  and 2 RBI’s

Hope Flanagan was 3-4, with a doubles and 2 singles, and a RBI

Lindsey Packard was 4-4, with 2 doubles, 2 singles and a RBI

Megan Lindsey was 2-5 with 2 singles

Taylor Grimmell was 1-2, adding a 2 run double in the fifth and 2 BB

Rachel Wigfield had 2 singles and a run
