South
Riding (May 22, 2008) – It was a beautiful afternoon Thursday but
Loudoun County High School junior and her Raider softball team had to
take care of an **** situation from the very first pitch against Park
View
Continuing a game rain delayed from the night before, Holtz
took to the pitching circle with the bases loaded and one out in the
bottom of the first inning of the AA Dulles District tournament
semifinal. Holtz got out of the jam with an infield fly and a deep fly
to center.
Holtz and PV starter Laura Heironimus then battled in
a scoreless game until the final inning when the Raiders got
back-to-back hits from Hope Flanagan and Lindsey Packard followed by a
walk to Megan Lindsey. Taylor Grimmell then drove in a run with a
fielder’s choice to second, and after strikeout, Kristen Gorman beat
out a slap single to short to make it 2-0.
Holtz finished the
game with a doubleplay ball to shortstop Holly Norris, who had seven
assists and a putout in the final four innings.
After a break, LC
played Broad Run and lost to the undefeated Spartans, 6-0, in the
district title game but both teams will advance to Region II play.
