Dulles District Dual Meet Golf Season Tees Off

(Aug. 12, 2008) _ The AA Dulles District dual golf meet season teed off Monday with Freedom shooting a school record 329 in South Riding and big victories by Briar Woods and Loudoun County.

Defending district champion Briar Woods blasted Potomac Falls by 50 strokes at Brambleton, 306-356, and Loudoun County cruised to a 87-stroke win over Park View at Westpark, 313-387.

Freedom 329, Dominion 345

South Riding – Fourth-year Freedom out-scored Dominion, 329-345, at South Riding Monday to break the school dual match mark by four strokes. The previous Eagle record was 333 shot in 2006 against Broad Run.

Junior Tyler Blake led Freedom with a 74 followed by junior Nick Lee’s 80. Junior Alex Choi (85) and sophomore Chris Kennedy (90) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles. Dominion was led by senior Michael Biller with an 83 followed by senior Dalton Brown (86), sophomore Shelby Shote (87) and senior Tyler Martinez (89).

The win marks the 11th straight vicotry over the Titan for the Eagles according to Freedom coach Ryan Price.

Freedom is 1-0 in dual matches with an overall mark of 16-7 when tournament play if calculated. Dominion falls to 0-1 and 10-13.

Briar Woods 306, Potomac Falls 356

Ashburn – The Falcons got a pair of 75’s from seniors Michael Birmingham and Carl Brendes to open up their Dulles District regular-season title defense at Brambleton Monday with a 306-356 win over Potomac Falls.

Freshman Adam Ochs and junior Nathan Burcak each added a 78 as BW sizzled on their home course.

Potomac Falls was led by senior Michael Tondi with a 84.

The Falcons improved to 1-0 and 21-2 while the Panthers sit at 0-1 and 16-7. PF is in a rebuilding mode after the graduation of Wyatt Endres and Chris Abt from the 2007 team and Nick Vico from 2006. BW, on the other hand, has not lost a starter from its lineup in the past three seasons.

Loudoun County 313, Park View 387

Leesburg – Loudoun County opened the Dulles District dual meet season with a solid 313 at Westpark in a 87-stroke win over Park View.

The Raiders were led by sophomore Michael Linville with a 76 followed by junior Dan Jackson (78), sophomore Brantley Kushner (79) and sophomore Kevin Cook (80).

Park View, in its first action of the season, was led by senior Steven “Minuteman” Balik with a 93 with senior Trevor Scales and sophomore Jake Wilton both posting 96.

LC improves to 1-1 in dual meets (1-0 in district) and 18-6 overall while Park View is 0-1 and 0-1.
