Volleyball: Broad Run, Park View and Potomac Falls All Win in Four

 

(Sept. 24, 2008) – Broad Run, Park View and Potomac Falls all picked up AA Dulles District victories Tuesday night in four sets as the first half of the district schedule came to an end.

LC leads the district with a 7-0 record after defeating Heritage (6-1) Tuesday.

PF defeated Briar Woods 25-13, 21-25, 25-11, 25-16 to secure third place in the district standings at the halfway point. The Panthers are 5-2 in district while the Falcons fell fifth place with a 3-4 mark.

BR defeated Dominion, 25-18, 25-17, 23-25, 25-23 to move to 4-3 and take over the fourt spot in the standings with the Titans falling to 2-5 and into the sixth spot.

PV put a “W” into the district win column with a 25-20, 11-25, 25-19, 25-18 victory over Freedom. The Patriots are 1-6 and the Eagles fall to 0-7.

In AAA play, Loudoun Valley continued its good start with a Cedar Run District sweep over Culpeper,

Tori Janowski
led the Panthers to victory with 16 kills, 12 assists, 8 digs, 7 aces, 19 service points and 4 blocks. The Panthers have now won eight straight matches and can tie Heritage for second place when the two teams meet Thursday at the Panther Pit in Sterling.

Nicole Fauteux had 4 kills, 19 assists, 4 aces, 12 service points, 5 blocks and 4 digs

Broad Run 3, Dominion 1
The Spartans bounced back from last Thursday’s loss against Potomac Falls with a 25-18, 25-17, 23-25, 25-23 win over the Titans.

Elisa Scudder led BR with 15 kills and eight digs. Carolyn Pearce finished with nine kills, 14 digs, three aces, one solo block and one assist block. Emily Sears also added nine kills, one solo and one assist block, and an ace. Melissa Miles had 13 digs and Kristin Burt set 15 assists and had a ****, 10 digs and two aces.

Lauren Wong had a big night for the Titans with 12 kills, 5 aces, 9 digs, 1 solo block and 2 block assists.

Park View 3, Freedom 1
The Patriots prevailed 25-20, 11-25, 25-19, 25-18 to earn their first district win on the year.

Emily Groves had seven aces, four kills and six digs for PV, while Kristin Oravetz added seven aces and six digs. Also for PV, Tabby Pham chipped in six kills and Lindsey Doscotch added seven digs while Abby Burkel ran the offense with 15 assists.

Freedom coach Dave Tsuda reports that the “The Eagles’ team energy was clearly pumped up for this match.  The great serving performances by Morgan Kemp, Sarah Chapman, Kathryn Ivey, and Eboni Weeks kept the scores very close for most of the games. Libero Kara Phung led the stingy Eagle defense with 20 digs. Jenna Flanagin frustrated the opponents with 15 blocks.  More blocks by Kaitllyn Lamantia, Katie Maxwell, and Kemp forced the opponents to alter their attack offense.”            
 
The Eagle Freshmen won 2-1; 25-10, 22-25, 15-13.  Reported Tsuda: “It was quite evident throughout the match, the team energy was pumped up and fueling their aggressiveness.”
  
The Eagle JV won 2-0; 25-17, 25-23. Maryam Kaymanesh and Jenna Hamrick had great offensive and defensive performances that contributed to the wins.

Loudoun Valley 3, Culpeper 0
Loudoun valley defeated Culpeper last night in three sets, 25-7, 25-13 and 25-14. With the win the Vikes improve to 9-1 overall and 6-1 in the district.
