The Plains (Oct. 6, 2008) – Dominion High School, led by sophomore J.T. Duke and senior Jimmy Rion, finished 24th in the strong Varsity A field at the 2008 Octoberfest Invitatiional at Great Meadows Saturday.

Duke turned in an area best 16:40.90 for the meet won by Solomon Haile of Sherwood High School, who finished some 32 seconds ahead of the field with a 15:10.35. Rion also broke 17 minutes with a 16:55.57. Duke placed in the top 30 in the field of 328 runners wih Rion placing in the top 50.

Robinson High School won the race with 104 points followed by Walter Johnson MD (153), Severna Park MD (238), Ocean Lakes (245) and Sherwood MD (255). Dominion was 24th (600) with Loudoun Valley two places behind (668) in the 47-team field. Stone Bridge took 32nd (777), Freedom 36th (844) and Park View 45th (1303).

Heritage took fourth in the Varsity B race with Andrew Slazer (17:01.52) finishing 11th in the race as he had the area’s third best time on the day behind Dukie and Rion. Briar Woods had a sixth place showing in the Varsity B race, led by Zach Deaton at 17:08.15 and Connor Pompilio at 17:21.09. The race was won by Herndon (93) followed by Edison (97), Spotsylvania (164), Heritage (165) and Osbourn Park (180).

BW scored 180 followed by other local teams: Broar Run 13th (313), Freedom 17th (440) and Loudoun County 20th (549) in the 23-team race that featured 173 runners. Darin Longeream of James Wood won the race with a 16:15.54.

In the Boys Upperclassmen JV race, Loudoun County took 8th with Heritage 12th, Briar Woods 19th, Broad Run 21st, Freedom 23rd and Dominion 24th. The race was won by West Sprinfield (53 points) followed by West Potomac (76), Walter Johnson MD (130), Robinson (143) and Osbourn Park (178). Jay Jarrels of Spotswood won the race with a 16:57.48. The top Loudoun finisher in the 223-runner event was Heritage’s Jason Gottlieb with a 18:18.69. 

In the Boys Lowerclassmen JV race, Loudoun County took 16th with Heritage 20th, Briar Woods 22nd, Dominion 32nd, and Freedom 37th. Herndon (84) won the 38-team race that featured 386 runners. Walter Johnson MD (95) was runner-up followed by Osbourn Park (96), Chantilly (179) and Ocean Lakes (206). The race was won by Herndon’s Troy Hunsaker with a 17:52.41. The top Loudoun finisher was Briar Woods Patrick Butler with a 19:02.44.
