Sterling (Oct. 11, 2008) – Potomac Falls High School improved upon its best football season ever Friday with a 28-20 AA Dulles District victory over Sterling rival Park View.

Panther senior quarterback Greg Woodlief rushed for a score and threw for two more touchdowns on 11 of 16 passing for 209 yards. Chad McMichael caught a 23-yard touchdown and had six catches for 88 yards. Tarrell Owens piled up 111 yards receiving on four receptions, including a 61-yard score. Owens also had a key deflection on defense that resulted in the game’s only turnover, an intercepton by Matthew Hoover that set up the first of two Asa Fox’s first-half field goals. That first field goal came after PF had been denied in the Red Zone with a 7-6 lead.I

The second field goal came with 11 seconds to go in the half. In between, Woodlief hooked up with Owens on the  long TD play and the Panthers had a 20-6 halftime advantage.

Park View was able to cut the lead to a touchdown with a Brandon Lee to Josh Jones 25-yard touchdown on a fourth down play but PF answered with the Woodlief to McMichael touchdown and then the Panther defense made it 28-13 with a safety late in the third quarter, sacking Lee in his own end zone.

The Patriots made it interesting with a Lee to Drew Mason 48-yard scoring play with 4:48 to play but the PF defense would not allow the Patriots to get close to scoring the tying touchdown.

Michael Baker helped the Panthers take some time of the clock with a variety of hard running plays including a key 21-yard pick-up on 3rd-and-21 late in the game. He finished with a well-earned 109 yards on 20 carries.

Six PV rushers combined for 177 yards but the Patriots managed just 90 yards passing, with half of that coming on the Mason TD.

PF is a step closer to the school’s first ever playoff spot with a 6-0 start and 3-0 district mark. PV falls to 1-2 and 2-4.
