Leesburg (Oct. 23, 2008) – The Potomac Falls High School boys and girls cross country teams swept the AA Dulles District meet at Ida Lee Thursday with the Panther boys winning for the eighth consecutive year and the girls repeating their district crown without their top runner.
The meet, sponsored by DigitalSports.com, was run under blue skies and mild temperatures. The PF boys were led by the 1-2 finish of Josh Hardin and Ryan Hagen with Harden taking home his third straight individual district title. PF’s Christina Lee was unable due to injury to compete for her third straight individual title which left Loudoun County’s Julie Strange coming home in first with a whopping 31-second advantage.
Strange ran a 19:34.32 while Hardin turned in a 16:38.05 to finish 15 seconds ahead of his teammate Hagen, who he himself, was 15 seconds ahead of third place, Dominion’s J.T. Duke.
In the girls race, PF’s Melissa Saunders finished second, just edging out Briar Woods’ Giana Leone. The Falcon girls finished second, ahead of third place LC and fourth place Freedom. The top four teams move on to next week’s Region II meet at Oatlands.
In the boys race, Dominion took second followed by LC and BW.
The Panther boys are one of the top ranked teams in the state and also have a regional ranking in the Southeastern. Last year PF failed to move onto AA states have tying for fourth at regionals and then losing on a tiebreaker.
