Sterling (Jan. 24, 2009) – The Loudoun County High School boys basketball team pulled out a victory over host Park View, 86-82, after the Patriots Jordan Owens sank a last second 3 pointer to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Park View came out tough on Saturday afternoon out scoring Loudoun County 32-26 in the first half. In the second half, the Raiders battled back and were ahead by 3 with 4.1 seconds on the clock. The Patriots Josh Jones inbounded the ball to freshman Ryan McCarter whose shot was blocked by Loudoun County’s Tyler Lawson, the ball ricochetted into the hands of Jordan Owens who calmly took his shot to tie the game 69-69.
Fouls played a big role in overtime, as Loudoun County scored 14 of their 17 points from the free throw line.
Leading the Patriots were Marcus Freeman with 26 total points and 7-11 from the line and Ryan McCarter just up from JV with 19 points and 2-2 from the line.
For Loudoun County Rick Cottom scored a game high 36 points with 8-8 from the line, even after taking the SAT’s earlier in the day, and Joe Bushrod had 28 points and 18-23 from the line. Tim McLister scored 11 and Tyler Lawson helped his team with a game high 12 rebounds and 7 points.
Park View is now 4-4 in district play and 6-9 overall. Loudoun County is 4-4 in distict play and 10-5 overall.
Both teams are back in action Tuesday when Park View travels to Heritage and the Raiders will face Potomac Falls at home.
