Park View Honors College-Bound Athletes

Sterling (June 5, 2009) – Park View High School held a ceremony on Wednesday to honor Patriots playing in college next year. Included in the ceremony were:


Brandon Absher signed a National Letter of Intent to play football at Division II Glenville State University located in Glenville, West Virginia.  During his time at Park View High School, Brandon was a two-time All-Dulles District performer on the football field.  He registered over 110 total tackles, 3 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries, and 2 blocked kicks over the course of his career.  In 2008, Brandon was selected to be a captain by his teammates.  In addition to playing football at Park View, Brandon was also a member of the varsity Boys Basketball and Track and Field teams. 
 

Megan Barnes will be attending James Madison University.  In her four years at Park View she has lettering in Basketball, Cross Country, and Track & Field.  She has been a team captain for Cross Country and Track & Field.  She has been a solid performer in the 800m run qualifying for State competition each of her four years.  She will be a preferred walk at JMU.   

Mary Ann Castaneda has committed to play soccer for the Lady Panthers of Ferrum College under head coach Sandy Lagana. Ferrrum is a NCAA Division III school in the USA South Conference. Mary Ann plans on majoring in pre-medical field. 

Marcus Freeman will be attending Virginia Commonwealth University where he will major in Business Administration.  VCU is Division I in the Colonial Athletic Association. He leaves Park View as the schools all-time leader in both career and single made three pointers. He has accepted an invitation from the basketball program to try-out for a walk-on position. 
  

Diana Gutierrez will be attending the University of Mary Washington where she will double major in biology and pre-veterinarian medicine.  Mary Washington is a Division 3 NCAA member of the CAC.  She has accepted an invitation from the lacrosse program to try-out.  Diana was a Co-Captain and 4 year letter winner for the girl’s lacrosse team. 

Jonathan Mason will be attending Bridgewater College where he will be playing baseball for the Eagles. Bridgewater is a Division III NCAA school in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Jonathan was a unanimous first team All Dulles District player his junior and senior season, gaining first team All-Region II honors his junior year. He will major in Business Management. 
 

Rachael Miller has committed to play basketball at Virginia Wesleyan University. VWU is a Division III NCAA school in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.  Rachael leaves Park View as a 3-year letter winner and was 2nd Team All-District in 2008 and 2009.  She set 3 school records and tied one this year; 3 Point Shots in a Game 8 (tie), 3 Point Shots in Season 48, 3 Point Shots in a Career 113; Free Throw Percentage in a Season 81%.   
 

Jacob Ridings will be attending Frostburg State University and will join the Bobcats football team this fall.  In 2008, Jake was the 2nd leading tackler on the Park View team, and he finished with 84 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks for his career with the Patriots.  Along with his impact on the football field, Jake has participated as a member of the varsity swimming and track and field teams.  He has also earned his Eagle Scout Award.  As a member of the Bobcats, Jacob will likely continue to play an outside linebacker position. 
 

Ben Rosado has committed to play baseball at Bluefield College in Virginia. Bluefield is a NAIA school in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. Ben will pursue a degree in Health and Physical Education and is looking to become a teacher and a coach. 
 

Kenny Smith will be attending Glenville State University this fall after accepting a partial scholarship as a member of the football program.  While playing at Park View, Kenny earned four varsity letters.  This past season he was selected as a 2nd team All-District offensive lineman.  While wearing a Patriots jersey, Kenny also collected 89 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and three sacks; as well as catching 13 passes for 170 yards and 3 touchdowns on offense.  He is projected to be a defensive lineman for the Glenville State Pioneers.
