Park View Falls From the Unbeaten Ranks

Special to Loudoun Prep Sports

Sterling (Oct. 8, 2006) – The Martinsburg (WV) High School football
team came to play Friday night with a single game plan:  give the ball
to Josh Twyman and the plan worked as Twyman rushed for 159 yards in
rainy conditions as the Bulldogs handed the Patriots their first loss
of the season, a 14-7 defeat.

Martinsburg scored first on a 45-yard pass play in the first quarter
from Dustin Peters to Xavier Peters. Twyman then scored just before the
half on a 45-yard run to put Martinsburg on top 14-0.

The Bulldogs were able to contain Park View running back Deric
Dudinski – who had 406 yards rushing the previous week against Briar
Woods — in the first half, but various other members of the Patriot
team stepped up their game to accommodate. Park View got a big
interception from Eric Johnston to help keep the Patriots in the game.

In the second half Park View came alive and finally put some points
on the board in the third quarter. In an offensive drive that included
back-to-back flea flickers, Dudinski scored a touchdown on a 2-yard
run. The first flea flicker that set up the score came off a double
reverse with C.J. Leizear throwing for 33 yards to Dudinski. On the
very next play, the ball was again pitched back to Leizear and he found
Danny Foley for a 34 yard gain to the Bulldog 9. Two players later
Dudinski hit the end zone.

With 5:19 left in the game, the Patriot defense was able to hold the
Bulldogs on 4th-and-goal from the 1. Taking over on downs, Park View
was able to advance the ball to midfield but the Patriots were unable
to tie the game.

“Martinsburg was an excellent team and we weren’t focused in the
first half and it cost us the football game,” said Park View coach Andy
Hill after the game.

Leizear, who had three interceptions on the night, put it another way: “We were bullied.”

But Deric Dudinski summed it by stating that: “We realize that when
we come out slow against a team like Martinsburg, the end isn’t going
to be what we wanted and it’s a lesson learned.”

Park View (4-1) now opens its Group AA Dulles District campaign with
key game against Heritage (3-2). Both teams were co-district champions
last year but the Patriots advanced to playoffs with a better VHSL
points rating.

Sterling (Oct. 5, 2006) – Park View High School is all set to honor
one of its greatest football players in its 30-year history when the

ceremony prior to Friday’s game against Martinsburg (WV).

The ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. with kickoff pushed back to

combined score of 77-21. The Partiots are coming off a 48-7 win over
Briar Woods in which senior running back Deric Dudinski set a school
record with 406 rushing yards and six touchdowns.

Lageman attended Park View from 1981 to 1985 where he was a standout in both baseball and football.

One for the Record Books:

By: Dan Sousa

Sterling (Oct. 2, 2006) – Football fans had no doubt they were
witnessing something special Friday night when Deric Dudinski rushed
for 406 yards and six touchdowns against Briar Woods but they may not
have realized how special the performance was.

Dudinski’s night was the 14th best performance all-time in Virginia
High School League history for rushing yards in one game and was just
94 yards shy of West Springfield’s Damone Boone’s record-setting
500-yard game on Nov. 10, 1995 in a 48-6 win over Annandale.

The 5-foot-9, 182-pound senior is now 697 yards away from the Park
View school record for all-time rushing yards – 5,157 set by Tony
Conway, who graduated after the 1988 season. Dudinski now has 926 yards
rushing this season on 83 attempts in just four games and his current
career total rests at 4,458 yards. First, Dudinski must catch Park
View’s all-time No. 2 runner, Alan Pinkett, who finished in 1981 with
4,683 yards before going on to play with Notre Dame and in the NFL.

Dudinski’s incredible game Friday included touchdown runs of 38, 62,
10, 33, 73 and 51 yards and he had an interception return for a
touchdown called back because of a penalty.

Colleges have taken notice of the elusive running back and hard-hitting defensive back. According to Virginia Preps  Dudinski
visited Ball State over the weekend and is also getting recruiting
interest from William & Mary, Richmond, James Madison, Towson
State, Bucknell Lehigh, Miami of Ohio and East Carolina among others.

Patriot Act: Deric Dudinski Rushes for School-Record 406 Yards and Six Scores

By: Dan Sousa

Sterling (Oct. 1, 2006) – Park View senior Deric Dudinski rushed for
257 yards Friday against first-year varsity Briar Woods … on
touchdown scores alone and finished with six touchdowns and a
school-record 406 rushing yards on 17 carries in the non-district 48-7
win.

Dudinski’s big night came against he former coach, Charlier Pierce,
who coached Park View to a 44-12 record from 2000 to 2004 before
leaving to start the football program at Briar Woods.

According to Virginia High
School League records, the 406 yards in one game is the 14th best
performance all-time and was just 94 yards shy of West Springfield’s
Damone Boone’s record-setting 500-yard game on Nov. 10, 1995 in a 48-6
win over Annanadale.

Briar Woods (4-1) came into the game with four straight wins to
start their first-ever varsity campaign, including three victories on
their home field in the Brambleton subdivision of Ashburn. The lone
bright spot for the Falcons Friday was a Alex Munro to Sean Leach
36-yard touchdown pass at the start of the second quarter to cut the
Patriots lead to 20-7.

Park View (4-0) now faces a strong Martinsburg WV team before
opening Group AA Dulles District play. Friday’s game with Briar Woods
was not a district contest as the Falcons and Freedom are not playing
full Dulles schedules this first varsity season.

Munro came into the game having success this season throwing to Tim
King but the stingy Patriots defense, which has allowed just three
touchdowns the past three games, held the duo to one completion for 11
yards. Munro finished 6 of 20 for 61 yards and one interception.

Defensively, junior defensive tackle Thomas Mulabah led the Patriots
with eight tackles – seven of them for losses and senior middle
linebacker Chris Davies had seven tackles.

Park View quarterback C.J. Leizear didn’t really need to throw the
ball much with Dudinski racking up the yardage on the ground but he did
complete 6 of 11 for 63 yards and a 7-yard score to Amechi Anyaugo.

The Patriots finished with 549 total yards in the game to Briar Woods’ total of 118.
